I’m blown away by what a new vendor did as their follow up to me after I met them the first time at my industry’s tradeshow. I had to share it with you and would love for you to think about how you can do something similar for your new prospects/clients. Watch the video to go deeper. Read below if you want a quick summary of what’s in the video. At my industry’s tradeshow, we normally ask our manufacturers to send us samples of the items we want to show our clients. When it arrives, it looks like a typical package with a packing slip and the samples. Everything is just thrown in the box. There's nothing special about it, nothing that is creating an experience or getting my attention. At the show, I really liked what this new manufacturer was doing. I stopped at their booth to see what their capabilities were, to meet their staff and get to know their line better so I can start showing their line to my clients. I really like that they have products made in the USA and eco-friendly. Fast forward a few weeks and I’m surprised when I receive a box from them. I thought that's interesting because I don't remember ordering samples. I opened the box…inside there’s this beautiful tissue paper with their logo on it and a wax seal holding it together. There was also a little card that was personalized to me. On top of the tissue paper was a card saying “Here’s a sampling of what we introduced as new products this year…..Cheers” and they all signed it. Isn’t that awesome? When I pulled back the tissue paper their products were laid out nice and neat. They included samples of the new products they introduced this year. Just the day before I was selecting items for one of my client’s projects and remembered this cool notebook that this manufacturer makes. The notebook has a pocket so you can put your phone, cables, pens, etc. in it. I was wishing I had a sample and the next day guess what….I had a sample of it!Remember that typical packing slip that comes in other vendors sample packages? It didn’t have one, instead, I received a beautiful two-toned folder, with white stitching around it, and they even took the time to personalize it with my name. Inside the folder was information on their new items, etc. to help me understand what they have to offer and how to sell it. They even took the time to personalize one of the notebook samples with my name on it too. I’m blown away at the level of detail they put into this. They really took the time to think through what I would need how to impress me and stand out from their competition. If they took this much care in a sample package, I can only imagine what the experience is going to be like when I work with them. I’m very excited! Remember this when you are putting together things for your clients and prospects. When you’re following up with them take some time to think like them. Surprise and delight them! Think of things they need so you can send it to them before they realize they need it. How can you get your products and services in their hands? How can you make it easier for them to work with you? These are the things that will give you more loyal clients that will help grow your business. If you have any questions please let me know.
